Dyrobes Full Version
Dyrobes is a new web series that explores the problems of modern society through the lens of popular social media. With over 300 million users, social media has become the convenient scapegoat for everything from art to politics to relationships. But when society turns to these fast-paced digital forums for guidance, do they really get what they need? Or are we just blindly following along until we find ourselves in an endless spiral of negativity? This web series revisits old folklore and modern culture in order to find out whether or not our technology is bringing us closer together or pushing us further apart. Based on three folktales from Denmark, this series explores how social media can be a force of good or bad with the same characters. In this first story, the protagonist is a young man named Baldur who is utterly obsessed with what everyone thinks of him on Facebook. He doesn't really know how to operate in the real world and thus retreats from it in a flurry of inconsequential interactions in a desperate attempt to fill his online life. At the end he realizes that happiness isn't something that happens in our own rearview mirrors, but rather when we're connected with others despite what they're going through. The second story follows two young men named Henrik and Rasmus who are getting ready to turn 18. Their futures are entirely wrapped up in the world of social media. The boys spend hours on Facebook, Snapchat, and other apps just trying to get likes, comments, and attention. They become so consumed that they forget eating lunch or interacting with their families. But when Henrik tosses away his phone one day for his birthday party, he realizes that the only real thing worth living for is actually living. The last story focuses on a man named Max who is known by everyone in the world except his own daughter. He is the proud father of the youngest most popular YouTuber in history. Max is so proud of his daughter that he's willing to stop at nothing to get her attention, even if it means compromising his own values and ideals. But when he finally wins her over with tickets to an exclusive concert, he realizes that the real lesson behind all this digital interaction is how fragile our connection with others is. A little bit of something for everyone, Dyrobes takes some of the problems of modern society and adapts them to new mediums. From what it means to be a father, to how we treat each other online, Dyrobes explores the world through the lens of social media. What could possibly go wrong? Dyrobes is a series about man's relationship with himself and with others. With over 300 million users, social media has become the convenient scapegoat for everything from art to politics to relationships. Dyrobes Full Version
